THIA welcomes Robyn Donaldson, the Director of Stem Xposure as a new non-profit member of the Tiny Home Industry Association.STEM Xposure Inc.is the brainchild of Robyn Donaldson, owner of Renew Construction Services.. Robyn is an Architectural Design and Building Major who gives back by mentoring African American school girls and college women towards Science Technology,Engineering and Math (STEM) careers in the construction industry as engineers,architects,mathematicians,professional tradesmen and general contractors.
STEM Xposures’ Revitalizing East Tampa” Architectural Design and Construction camp provides an opportunity to expose and to engage minority students in our community to STEM careers and the impact of architectural design.
At the completion of each camp, each youth will have a stronger understanding of how to be engaged and active in the positive changes of the design-built environment in their communities, as well as, having a greater understanding of the skills and role of an architect and designer. The ultimate goal is to have the students matriculate to stem careers that may lead them to the construction industry as architects, engineers, professional tradesman and general contractors.
Mission
The STEM Xposures design camp program will create architectural design projects which fosters a greater connection with the local community by addressing a recognized need within that same community. The camps are designed to teach the basics of architectural design, inclusive of mapping, site investigation, sketching, scaled drawings, and presentation skills.
Event Starts Today
Day 1: Floor plan exercise with Zach Giffin, Operation Tiny Home and NETFLIX TINY House Nation.
Day 2: Driveway Challenge, design your tiny home floor plan with chalk and cardboard cutouts with Kyle Thompson, Middleton H.S. Construction Technology Instructor and YOUTUBE Sensation, Modern Greaser. Instructions will be available online and during camp August 4,2020.
Day 3: Intro to SKETCHUP with Allyson McDuffie, SKETCHUP Director, Education Outreach. Camp starts August 10-14,2020 and instructed by returning students and tiny home designers from the Tiny Home community
